We have been to the Boot show in Dusseldorf this weekend, and fell in love with the 545.
I have been reading on this forum (very useful input and good forum!), and see that we might face some challenges with this boat (as we also have had with our current Bavaria..) We will buy the boat on export, and will not return it to norway within the next five years. As we see it we can then choose the best dealer reputation / price combination in europe then, preferably deliverance in the south of france. Long story short: can anybody suggest where we will get: - Good purchase follow-up (advices reg. equipment etc) - "not biased" dealer reg. weaknesses in the Hanse std equipment - Good delivery phase (testing and correcting issues) - General customer service WeŽve got an offer from Yachting Partners Malta Ltd. any experiences? Thanks! KR Vegard |

Hi WAAB,
I bought my boat in 2007 and it also went for exports. I decided to purchase at the HVG, the dealer on site in Greifswald. I also decided to stay next to the yard for quite some time in order to get the things fixed and comissioned. The good news is that this dealer belongs to the Hanseyard organisation and is as closest to the yard they can be. It is my understanding that they also deliver at their Hanse facility in southern France.
Besides this we had very positive support from the Hanse Dealer in Portugal, the people from Algarvesail who took care of us in a very professional way when we had to stop in Lagos for some warranty work.
Bottomline is, that the longer you can stay close to the yard where you get delivery, and the more you can test, try and trial your boat, hopefully in adverse conditions, the more problems willarise and can be adressed under the yards warranty.
The 545 is a great boat , I have sailed the 540 (same hull and rigg) and was impressed with the easy of handling and speed. Our 630 is a little faster but much more complicated to handle.

Hi WAAB,
I have very similar situation/questions (545 and any purchase location), but not yet decided on purchase date. So I would be grateful you could post your upcoming experience with all details. This would help me and many other potential buyers in the future. Thanks a lot in advance. |

Hi Wabb,
We bought our 470 in 2008 through Yachting Partners Malta and took delivery in Port Grimaud in june 2008. We stayed in the area during summer, to stay close to the yard for minor repairs and its now in Malta for more than a year, from were we explore the med. We are content with the Maltese agent and he provides excellent service, also after the sale.Of course there are always items breaking down and they make a good effort to settle it with Hanse. The only thing is that Hanse itself is somewhat slow in responding. Also we made use of the VAT refund scheme which will safe you around 10% VAT. The 545 looks great. Herbert Starreveld |

Hi Wabb,
Our Hanse 470 was also delivered in Port Grimaud in 2008 under supervision of Yachting Partners Malta. They also took care for the after sales and guaranty. All went to our utmost satisfaction. The boat had some shortcomings and also we had to deal with some very late deliveries of ordered equipment. The yard itself indeed (as Maltastar mentioned) is slightly slow in reaction on complaints. But Yachting Partners Malta solved everything out for us, even if the yard had not agreed yet.
Also the lower VAT-rate compared to the rest of Europe, is an advantage.
So we would suggest: go for it, it is a nice hard working guy with an enthousiastic "Hanse heart".
By the way, we are very happy with the performance and quality of the Hanse 470 itself and are fitting her out for an ocean crossing.
Good luck!

I follow the topics raised within this website almost on a daily basis and I can more than vouch for Yachting Partners (Hanse's Malta agents) excellent rapport with their clients.
Through experience, going back almost 40 years (when my father had a boat), I know that small things inevitably go wrong on boats, and having a pro-active, willing and helpful local agent makes the task of maintaining a boat so much easier. So do fully consider Yachting Partners (Malta) when weighing up where you are going to puchase your Hanse from. You will find Shawn & Peter most helpful and knowledgeable. - David B

My vote goes to Hanse UK - Give Peter a call, I'm sure you won't be disappointed
