Hi,
I am a new owner of a 415.  I’m looking to add a bow thruster, and was wondering what the “stock” model is that came as a factory installed option?  It looks retractable, but how much thrust is it rated for, and is it 12 or 24v?
Thanks
Simon

Hanse fit a retractable quick as std (sorry I don’t know the model) Mine has a sidepower SR80 (80kg) I seem to recall the quick equivalent that Hanse fit is 85kg

80kg is plenty

Model number is BTQR1808512  4.3kW.

There are alternatives to a swing thruster available now, that maybe weren't back in the early 2010s that are fitted externally and require only a single small fixing hole through the hull, rather than a large swing down installation. Their advantage, apart from ease of installation is that they are available for use immediately i.e. you don't have to wait 10 seconds for the thruster to 'swing down'. They also don't have a speed limit of 3 knots which applies to the swing thruster in the down position. Their disadvantage, of course, is that they are vulnerable outside the hull. However, I would suggest you investigate the option before deciding on a swing thruster.
That said, I have the Quick thruster model above and have been very pleased with its performance.

Can I ask if you have made any progress with the retro fitting of the retractable bow thruster?
Who are you using to fit it and have you decided against a tunnel fitting?

I am planning on extending the forward berth so that I can sleep facing aft.  I have lots of room because I don’t have a second head up front.
By building a headboard I believe I will open up enough height room to fit a conventional tunnel thruster.  My Beneteau 41.1 had a vetus 9512, which was quite good, so may stick with what I know.
The boat is still in the water, plan will be to do this in November…

Thanks,we have forward head but I extended the bed towards the door so one of us can sit up against the head partition ,but it has allowed me a very comfortable 1.8m wide(at top) narrowing to 1m on 2m long mattress(200mm thick). This has freed up space at the bow but I find it easier to get out facing forward. We are in Croatia and have trouble with molluscs so I think a tunnel would be a problem as it’s in the water over winter. Does anyone have a suggestion for someone good in the Dubrovnik/Split area to retrofit a bow thruster?

Hello Iris,

the mechanic service in my marina uses bow thrusters of side power. They are externally mounted and very powerful. The bow of the Hanse is very shallow. An external bow thruster is deep enough in the water and can be mounted far in the front. That gives a better lever.
Send me a PM for the contact.

Greetings Axel

Here is an example from our boat, it was installed by the yard in Greifswald.
Very pleased with it, immediate response, an super quiet. We can leave the dock without waking up the neighbours. Easy retrofit installation within one day.

Hi,not sure if these pics work and sorry they don’t show the marine ply replacement panel is standing on end .I took a cardboard template and cut a shape to replace the aft section of the bed support all the way up to the bulkhead.I then cut and inserted a treated 3x2 as support leaving the underside open for storage.I was going to remove the aft support section and cut out slots to fit the vertical panel support kbut decided it was easier to just screw it to the top and raise the forward bed base with 12mm support blocks.I’m sorry the pics don’t show the process fully.I carefully removed all edge cover strips and replaced them to form the edge of the new base ,but I turned them upside down so they don’t protrude so much. Also I removed the edge and cut back the port “table” area and replaced the edge(a little thought required with angles)this gives me a back support of sorts. It’s a compromise we’ve lost floor space but the bed is amazing ,for me a comfortable bed is super important.I can get better pics but not till April!
