   Yes, if you can go with a horizontal motor, then you can add a big valve to the intake fitting and valves to the output nozzles.  

I feel like HM needs to provide more parts for the vertical motor install - the mounting ring is left to the installer to fabricate, so unless you're mounting on a very flat portion of the hull you need to make something that fits the local contours and provides a concentric / parallel set of faces on both the inside and outside of the hull.  That is actually very difficult to achieve.  You can't just expect to drill a hole and mount the pump face on the inside of the hull and screw in the inlet flange on the outside.  You would end up with massive gaps between the faces and the hull (both inside and out) that wouldn't transfer the forces well, and have a lot of leak potential.  

I'm very happy with the way mine is installed, but it took a lot of custom fabrication that I honestly don't know would be easy for the average DIYer.  3D CAD, composites / 3D printing, etc.

That being said, the end result is vastly better than any other option.  I like it SO much better than the tunnel thruster i had on a previous boat, and it has a lot fewer moving parts and issues than a retractable thruster.  It has great power, is very quiet, and excellent responsiveness.  I would do it again in an instant.

	Hi Simon, Did you go for flat nozzles or curved . I’m mounting mine just aft of the anchor locker bulkhead and they’re not sitting flush with the hull. Did you flatten the hull under the flange to take care of the slight curve on the hull or use curved nozzle, or some other solution? Tony Edited by Iris - 16 April 2024 at 18:54

	Flat nozzles - I mounted them pretty high (i.e. right on the waterline). I did flatten the hull a small amount to mount them flush...

	Question: Do you close all valves at the inlet and outlet when you leave the boat longer than one day ? My insurance (Germany) insisted, when I evaluated the different systems.Until then waterjet was my favorite, as I could have easily stern and bow thruster.

	The vertical pump arrangement doesn't have a valve until after the outlet... so not sure what closing off the valve would do from a safety standpoint. It's no different than the mounted motor in a conventional thruster, or the thru-hull tri-sensor (depth/speed/temp). Those can't be isolated either. There are thru hull shutoffs for the outlet nozzles, similar to other thru-hulls. So they expect you to go around the boat and shut them all before you leave? All the drains, the AC outlets, the water pickups? If you do, then install the waterjet and put it on your list of things to close when you leave. If you don't then install the waterjet and put them on the list of things you should close every time you leave.
