Just thought I'd highlight some chafe on the (dyneema?) strop on my furler. This is after one season and it appears to rub on the edge of the swivel mechanism. You can't see it in the picture but the chafe it's below my thumb! You may want to check if you have the newer type like this.  I'm going to see if can slip a sleeve of thin PVC tube over it to prevent it in future

Is that at the top of the furlex?  The background looks like you are up the mast.  If so, what made you go up there to check as I would not normally expect to send someone up there for years.

Cheers

I have the same furler on my boat.    It replaced the original, problematic, Selden halyard swivel.     I cover my boat for the winter here in the Northeast US and check it every spring.    No problems so far.

Have you checked to make sure the halyard wasn't twisted *before*   it went up?   I always make sure the alignment and the angle are right after I hoist the sail..  See picture.

thanks - I didn’t check, but will do when I rehoist the headsail in the spring. The strop is chafing on the edges of the swivel and it looks like they would chafe whether twisted or straight.

Hello Nice job done :)

can you tell we what brand and specifications you have chosen to replace the halyard swivel and where i can get it  ? I crashed mine on our H385, your solution looks far more professional than the original one.
Does it fit or does it need some modification to make it fit ?

thanks a lot, best regards.

Best regards

I'm not sure what the model number is.    For larger Hanse (we are a 575) the original Selden swivel is undersized and has a really poor point of load for the jib halyard.  If you look at the "coffee cup handle" on the below,  you can see how 15,000 lbs off tension on a membrane sail and halyard will pinch the bearings inside the swivel.    On the 588 and our boat they upgraded to the new one below.    It really makes a difference.  The new one is quite strong and has a much better attachment under load model.

I'm sure you can call Selden for the part number,  but I'm not sure boats under (say) 45' would need it.
