I had to replace the washdown pump on Black Diamond this week, and decided that I'd both upgrade the pump for more GPH and deal with a problem we'd been living with to this point.    I installed a Jabsco 5gph pump, which fits nicely, although it's a little bigger.    No big deal there.

However, Bonnie wanted to fix the process of turning on the anchor washdown pump.  Previously, (on our 575) you had to go forward, find the washdown hose and nozzle.  install it in the deck fitting, and then come back below to flip the F2 switch at the nav station to power the pump.  Then go back forward to use the hose while you brought the anchor up.  Powering the pump without the hose installed provided a nice imitation of the "Old Faithful" geyser at Yellowstone National Park.

I installed a simple wireless switch for the pump, so you can now flip F2 anytime, but you control pump on/off with a remote in your pocket.   This stops you from having to go below every time you want to use the washdown pump.  It comes with a couple of waterproof remotes and installs in about 10 minutes.  Twenty dollars.

Bonnie likes it... and she is the one who usually is up forward when the anchor comes up (FWIW).   In case you have the same complaint....

Nice!  I did a similar fix but with a hard wired toggle at the top of the bow locker. I can reach it from the deck. I agree the the F2 switch was silly.

I was about to go that route and decided that getting on our knees to reach a switch under the deck was less satisfying than the wireless remote. :-)

BTW, I wired in a similar RF remote to my bow  and stern thruster. I can manage the boat very easily from the dock when I’m handling lines on my own.  I would highly recommend it!

Really nice idea, as that 2 step process with the F2 switch is a pain. What’s the spec on the wireless/remote switch?

It was a few years ago, so I cannot remember or find the invoice.   That said,   when I do an internet search for 12V wireless remote, lots of options pop up.   Cannot speak to the current prices though..

I have since last season a battery powered ( medium ) pressure washer, which uses the sea water.
You can also use it to clean the deck or up front to clean the anchor. It replaced my installed deck wash pump completely.

When I did my project,  I replaced the washdown pump with another pump that has more force.   Cleaning the mud and seafood off the anchor in our area takes a bit of water pressure.   The factory pump is 3.something lbs water pressure.   I bumped it up to 5.

With that I also have a salt water cannon to fire at boats that anchor too close :-)

Hi Arcadia,

I'm very interested in your installation of a remote control for both front and stern thrusters.
What are the details? what are the necessary parts?
If you have some pictures?
Thanks for your help!
