Just bought a 312 and familiarising myself with the layout. Where is the waste water drain valve?

Bill, If you open the door at the back of the heads compartment that leads into the large cockpit locker, there is a removable floor panel just inside the door. Lift that and you will see two seacocks - one is the inlet to the toilet, the other is the outlet from the holding tank. Regards Alan |

......and if you are unlucky like me you will find that someone at the factory positioned the though hulls and oriented the seacock for the holding tank outlet so that it is almost impossible to get your hand on the handle to open/close it. If you are really unlucky, like I am, after 20 months the seacock (which is opened and closed every time we arrive or leave the boat) will seize and refuse to close! Looking at all the seacocks, and probably replacing the heads outlet one, is on the list for my local riggers and maintenance guys once they have lifted the boat out to antifoul it in the next week or two. I do seem to be having a bad run of luck at the moment but do enjoy your new 312, they are great, really. |

BlueMan.....why don't you leave the seacocks open? I have had my 311 for 4 years and I have left every seacock (except the head holding tank) on the boat open the whole time. And when out in the ocean I can kneel down and turn the handle on the head holding tank to release it with no problem.

Hi mqh7 - I guess the trick here is knowing when to sell the boat
before it sinks at the mooring - more seriously, the 10 turn stopcock
on the saltwater inlet to the Saildrive on my 342 is difficult to get
at, and I was advised to leave it open - after less than 12 months it
had built up enough internal grunge to inhibit water flow - a good soak
in vinegar with it closed fixed the problem after considerable
agitation of the tap.

mqh7, I am with Interlude on this one. Seacocks need to be used regularly to make sure they'll work when you really need them. I wouldn't leave my boat for extended periods with them open as it only takes any one of probably 20 or 30 hose connections to come adrift and down she goes......
