I will be sailing south from Finland in early June and am looking for suggestions on where to stop to drop off my wife. She will be heading to Arlanda AP. A taxi is probably best as I won't be able to accompany her. Ideally, somewhere where we can get provisions and fuel for our trip south to the Kiel Canal.

Have you looked at Nykoping? I stayed on the quay near the bridge (similar fees to the marina) for a few days for a crew change last year. My crew were also flying in/out of Arlanda.
I believe there are busses and trains from the town to Stockholm central and from there you can change onto the local train (or the express if you don't mind the extra cost) to the airport. |

Do not tell anyone exactly where that is otherwise, like all popular spots, it will become too crowded. Before you know it there will be, social workers , lawyers & gigolos springing up all over the place. Might find the odd bankrupt husband floating about as well. There are several
harbours on the Swedish coastline with a good train or bus connection to
Stockholm. For example: Kapellskär, Nynashamn, Kalmar, or Ystad, just to
mention a few.
Even from the most distant of them, the Ystad, travel by train to Arlanda airport takes only 7 hours. Trains leave once an hour, and even the first class ticket costs less than 100 dollars. That is much faster and cheaper than a taxi. However, if you go so far south, why fly via Stockholm? Train from Ystad to Copenhagen airport takes less than 1½ hours and is much cheaper. (Prices and times from www.sj.se) So I suggest that
you decide how far south you want to sail together. Just bear in mind that the
Finnish and Swedish coastlines are quite different compared with San Francisco
area. You need, and would like to use, much more time per coastline mile. I
hope our Swedish members can then give you more concrete suggestions about
Swedish harbours. |
