Without the transom dinghy garage of the 545, where are people putting their dinghy during passage?

Off the top - cabin top under the boom, hang it off thet ransom, or you could tow it like us smaller boats do...

I stored my dinghy (either upside down when I expected rain or strong waves/wind; or the normal way around) on the foredeck between the elevation of the front cabin and the sail hold. My dinghy is "only" 2.4 m long though, but it fits all 6 of us (2 adults and kids aged 5.5, 3.5 and twice 1.5, though).

I tightened it down to eyes on the sides and the two I had attached right aft of the aft most pipes of the pulpit in order to tie down my lifelines. This worked fine for the 5.5 months of sailing in the Med this summer.
would love to go back to sailing like summer 2012 (5.5 months from Slovenia to Turkey with wife and 4 little kids)

The place on the foredeck is a very good solution -- I have the dinghy there on my 445 since 3 years (sailing from May to October)

I quite happily sail with my dinghy on the foredeck of my 341 in most weathers.  On our yacht, the dinghy unfortunately covers the fore-hatch, but you should be able to fit one in without this problem.  We just have a strop between the 2 eyes at the front of the dinghy and hoist it up on a spinnaker halyard.  If you pull directly on the halyard at the mast, the you may even be able to get away without using a winch.

I am intending to store mine in the same location on my 445 but how do you get it there?  My dinghy (a small RIB)  weighs 30kg so a bit much for me to hoist up by hand!!

Hello,

I use a simple three point rope system on the spinnaker halyard to lift up the dinghi.
Ours weighs 43kg and my 7 year old daughter is at the winch while I make sure the dinghi glides up the rump at the right spot and does not get entangled in the railing netting.

Mine looks like the "universal dinghi lift" on this website http://www.waypointent.com/lifting.html
It is the fourth from the top.

The important part is that it has simple slings at the two back ends and will therefore fit any dinghi.
I can leave the system on the dinghi permanently.

I baught it at a local shop in Germany for roughly 40€.

Bye,
Mark

Easy if your are double handed or more but not so easy if, like me, you are more often single handed.  I have in mind to use the spinnaker halyard but am considering a 3:1 block arrangement between the halyard shackle and the dinghy sling so that I can operate it from the foredeck while controlling the dinghy as she comes on board.

I have yet to try this but intend to do so when it gets a bit warmer and will let you know how it goes.
