Hi all,
Did anyone find out how to connect the Yanmar engine to the boat network (nmea2000 or Simnet) to have engine info shown on the Zeus MFD? Thanks, |

I have been looking into this but do not know if this is a full solution. see http://mbwtech.com/node/129
My concern is does the Zeus or other MFD have the ability to display the data or is additional programing needed. Once you have the data, does the Zeus know what to do with it? How will it be displayed?

I have used Yacht Devices Engine Gateway on the Volvo D1-30 but this was quite limited, just showing hours, revs, temperature and alternator voltage (from memory).
I believe that the ECU in the Yanmar has much more information including fuel flow rates. The Yacht Devices gateway can be used on Yanmar with an adapter which they sell. This is MUCH less expensive that the Yanmar option! The Zeus can be configured to show the engine data but you'll need to check the manual to find out exactly what data it can show. I'd be very surprised if it cannot display all engine data from standard PGNs. To get the B&G to display this data you need to go through the "Data Sources" configuration and select the device that you want to use for the various sources. In most cases you can ask it to auto-select and this will do it for you. Once you have done that you can build custom displays containing any available data. You have options to display this in an analogue dial format or just as a number. I'll be trying it out in the spring.

thanks guys for your answers.
I've seen that such solutions are quite costly. Not sure if the benefits are worth the investment. I was hoping for a 'simple' connection between the existing engine control and the boat network. It seems no such simple connection is possible. Thanks again, |

Henk,
you can go the expensive route and use a Volvo/Yanmar device or the economic solution with the Yacht Devices interface. With the latter you will (cuurently) only get fewer data. I am fine with these and have been really impressed by the technical support from Yacht Devices. Normally you get within hours competent response which works to your question. MvG Frank

Hi there, looking at doing this connection from Yanma 4JH57 to B&G Zeus3 - how did your system work out?

My 2021 458 came with the Yanmar N2K integration as standard.
I get all engine data on my Zeus/Triton including fuel consumption. As mentioned I previously used the Yacht Devices engine gateway on a Volvo. YD do make a converter for the Yanmar too.

Like Stuart, mine came with the Raymarine ECI-100 installed in a kind of hidden location under the throttle quadrant. You have to go into the menus of the Zeus to tag the data to display. I didn’t realize this for about a year after I had the boat. Here’s some pics.
