Hi,
Take it off and spray the back each year with WD40 or similar.  They are exposed and we've had failures on Hanse as well as Grand Soleil so not cheap sh*t - just corrossion.

Dear John. My electrician suggested to install a separate hour (analog) counter 50mm diameter for Eur 40.-  It will be mounted on the side so we have to drill a hole. Second thought: In case an integrated one like the original brakes again, you have triple costs (price eur 180.-) I think he's right.

My meter started to give out a year ago.  Now it comes on only now and then.  It seems to still be logging the hours, just not displaying them.
 
I put a mechanical hour meter in the engine compartment (and ran it for about a month this winter to wind it up to the same count).  I like this location much better because it is easy to check against the hours for the last oil change (written on the filter), or to make entries in the log, and you don't need to go outside and start the engine to read it.  I don't miss the old meter at all
