I have just made the order for a Hanse 325 to be picked up in April and to be sailed home to Norway. I am joyfully making plans for the trip home.
I did order the windlass, but not anchor and chain as I thought the price was a bit steep.. Right now I have a 16Kg Delta anchor available, but I think it might be too much, the one from the hanse yard would have been 10Kg. Does anyone know if it will fit in the anchorholder in the bow, and/or
will 16 Kg of anchor and 30M of 8mm chain be to much weight in the bow?

please advise

Hard to say it it fits in the bow as I havent seen the boat yet. But I can tell you that by removing my 16 kg anchor plus 30 meters 8 mm chain, the boat moves very nice in the water now compared to before. So spontaniously 16 kg sounds too much on a 325.

It is always a bad solution to have to much weight in the bow. But the question is, where will the anchor be than? So - Marco - where is yours now?
Sailing without it could be dangerous in difficult situations.

My bow anchor is at home now. I have started to strip the boat of all unneccessary equipment in head of lifting it up in 2 weeks. But I still have a 15 kg bruce anchor in the stern although I will not be using it since we are these days only sailing back and forth between our home harbour.

The anchor that fits the roller is a 10kg Delta.  If you try to fit a 16kg you need to re drill the locating hole, which damages the galvanised finish and the shank is too long for the anchor locker lid.

I would stick to the 10kg.

Kind regards

Hi Hegar,

I would be very carefull before using anything other than the standard 10kg. Delta anchor on the 320 unless the electric windlass was upgraded above the standard supplied with the yacht (as an extra). I have found that the weight of the anchor as it is being raised causes the gypsy to slip sometimes, even though I have checked it for tightness. I think that this may be more of a problem if a heavier anchor was used, and this is the reason for my restraint.

I hope that you will be very happy with your new 325. If she sails as well as a 320, I am sure that you will be very satisfied.

Regards,

John

Thanks everyone for quick advise.

sounds reasonable to stick with a 10 Kg delta then.
This is my first boat purchase and I am very excited about it. seems to me that the 320 is a good boat and I believe that the 325 will be as well...

Did anyone know if there is more space in the cabins of 325 vs 315?

Congratulations with the new boat! I think you will be satisfied, as it seems like Fjord Boats are trying to, at least, to do a better job than Nelson marine is still famous for. Where in Norway are you based?

When racing; I usually remove the 8mm acid proof anchor chain from the bow - but because of them strict regulations (ISAF demand 2 anchors) I just use 30 meters of rope. The boat moves way better in the water without them 30-40 kgs extra weight in the bow.

I sometimes find myself in heavy seas here so there's 2 Plastimo Kobra anchors on my boat - 14kg at the bow and a handheld 7kilo at stern...the 14 kilo Kobra doesn't seem to be fitting correctly on the roller it's definitely too big...I'm yet to find how to lock it securely in place and how to wind it in with a windlass without destroying the anchor box lid...
