We also have a boom brake, winchard - definately to be recommended, it so takes the stress factor out of sailing down wind in the gybe zone

The princip is very well describe from the manufactory's material. My questions is : How can the 2 blocks be fastend besides the mast. The lines from the brake under the boom goes forward in both side.A foto froam a Hanse 320, 350 or 370/375  will be very fine.

I have been looking for a boom brake as well. The forces when gybing are huge. Each time, I am afraid something will break.
The one from Wichard looks fine but nfortunately it only suits mainsails up to 40 sqm only. The 370 has 42,5 sqm. In combination with the traveller on the cockpit roof, I assume the Wichard is too light for me. Any experiences with other brands?

Here are three models to consider. The last links brake is smart in my opinion but never used one so...

The Wichard boombrake is at least her in Norway expensive. So I have this season with success tried a climber eight. It costs only 10 euro . You adjust the friction by adjusting the tension of the rope on a winch.

Hi, here are some pictures of my Winchard Boom Brake. It is rated for a slightly smaller mainsail than is on the 370, but in one or two crash gybes in 30 knots of wind it did its job. I use it all the time and it's worth every cent in my opinion. The control line is sheeted either to a rear winch or to the stern cleat.

Maroc, thanks for the site links. However, the price of these very nice features make that I am also interested in the cheaper solutions.
Ernol, can you explain in a bit more detail how your 'climber eight' solution works?
