Hi Ta'I Miti

I too would like to install a new meter and your solution seems ideal, however knowing little about electrical equipment I am hoping a picture or basic sketch will help me to identify the "w" terminal
Engine is 3ym30 with 60 amp alternator coupled to sterling regulator

Thanks

Keith

Hi,
where from did you get  the + connection for the hourmeter? From the key switch, the alternator or somewhere else?
thanks

Here is one replacement tacho and hour meter that fits quite well in the Yanmar B-panel.
It is from swedish biltema, but the same meter is available from other brands also.

Too bad I didn't see your post in advance. I'm a frequent visitor to Biltema but never noticed that they sell things like this. I took the hard way and got a replacement tacho from a Yanmar dealer. The brand is Italian - San Giorgio S.E.I.N. and it's for "W" signal from the alternator.

I took the unit home to make the hour meter run to the old value. I thought by applying 12V to the tacho itself it would start counting. Nothing happens, it's still at 0.8 hours.
Do I need to apply some kind of voltage, or frequency, to the tacho input to get the hours counting?

Hej,
my front panel has been damaged and I tried to get a spare part in Sweden.
They told me i have to replace all of it.
My old instruments are useless according to them.
About 1000€ just for a piece of plastik.
To repair the Engine hour meter is easy.
You will find a Youtube video to fix it.
How much dit you pay for the original Yanmar spare part? (front panel incl. instruments)
Regards.

If it's the hourmeter that is not working you can by a replacement LCD here: https://www.boatstuff.se/display-timraknare.html Hours are stored in the tachometer so no calibration is needed. Fits both Yanmar and Volvo.
499 sek is 50€. If you have some skills in electronics and software you can build your own replacement using an Arduino and a oled display for much less.

I actually only replaced the RPM/hour instrument, not the whole panel. The instrument was damaged by moisture - some times the RPM didn't move and the hour meter was at the end never visible. I tried the method found on Youtube but I was not successful.
The Yanmar replacement part (Italian brand now) works well but cost a lot. I would however recommend the Biltema instrument for pricing reasons and not replace the whole panel if other things works OK.
For the winter I brought the whole panel home to make the hour meter run to the correct value. The problem is that I can't get the hour meter to move just by applying 12V to the instrument itself. Do I need to also have some frequency on the "W" input?

Hej Forth2,
there is still a RPM counter available.
But without the hour meter.
Art nr. 25-8039 for 599 SEK.
Mayby they made some changes in the katalog 2018.
What about Mekonomen?

The Biltema webpage actually shows that article WITH hour meter.

I got a response from the Italian manufacturer of my instrument - I need apply BOTH 12V power and a frequency to the "W" input to make the hour meter run :).
