Hi,

We are thinking of upgrading our 20Kg Delta for something bigger.

Wonder what other owners have replaced the standard anchor with and how big we can go without modifying the roller mechanism.

Many thanks,

Because of some problems with it I replaced 20kg with a 27kg Ultra anchor. Mechanism has no problem. But, you can’t insert the anchor stabilizer pin to the hole in larger anchor. This is a Hanse458

I also replaced the 20 kg Delta with a 27kg Ultra -- a very good solution -- the only 'disadvantage' of the Ultra is that it tends to slip over weed where the Delta finds a way to dig in. As weed usually is not a good place anyway I don't think this has real importance.

Hi Semih ,
I am from Izmir ,
I am thinking to replace Delta with Ultra 21 kg , which I have from my previous boat, Hanse has a 21 kg ultra anchor option  for 455 ,the bigger is better of course but I think there is a space problem. did you have any problems with 27 kg in case if it hits the bow etc.?

I know this may seem a dumb question, but are you using all chain,  chain/rope,  or mostly nylon?

No, I think it is a good question . I am using all chain 10mm and total 100 meters. I think chain has enough weight to hold the boat . My ex boat was a motorboat Azimut 42 , was equipped with 21 kg Ultra anchor , 10 mm, 80 meters all chain. I never had a anchoring problem. But this boat is new to me and I have no idea.

We've still not decided which way to go with this yet.

Our research found this guy on Youtube ... https://youtu.be/ua21k2abK1Q

Thoroughly interesting. Independent testing that suggests some big-name high performance anchors don't quite match their reputation and the standard Lewmar Delta actually performs okay.

Maybe we just need a a heavier Delta which is half the price of the 'high performance' alternatives.

Any thoughts?

What about the new Epsilon?  This is Lewmar's answer to the next-gen anchors.  It is reasonably priced and has the same shank as the Delta so will fit the bow rollers.  Roll bar is optional.
A 20kg costs around £290 but not available for a month or two so no real world tests yet.

I found the Delta useless in weed and not much better in shingle but these are tough for most anchors.  Excellent holding in all types of mud and ok on sand.

Hi ,
Is it only the anchor holding the boat or together with the chain? All the new generation  anchors are designed to work with chain because they need certain angle to hold the sea bed. I am confused with the anchor test video.
At 10 meters of depth I leave at least 50 to  60  meters of chain ( 10 mm ), which weighs almost 120 to 130 kg .  At least the 10 meters of it lying in the sea bed so the anchor chain side can not rise up.

I always try to stay away from weed.
Thank you everyone who comments .
Stay healthy .
