Morning all and hope you all have a happy Xmas and great NY. I want to replace the shaft coupling and thrust bearing on our 575, 2014 model. The Hanse shop no longer lists a replacement. They do have a coupling shown for the 588 but not for the 575 and don't say/know if this will be a simple fit to the 575. Does anyone know the part number for the coupling? I think it is a Centa CF-AGM 50-3 but want to get a confirmation of this if possible.

I’m pretty sure Hanse used that same Centa model since the 545. My neighbor has a 2014 575 with the same one (badly rusted from a leaking panda pump!). Mine is pretty clean. I noticed a grease nipple on the shaft side of it but I haven’t used it yet. I’m hoping to keep mine serviceable since replacing will be a pain. Curious what yours is experiencing.

Hi Wayne,
why do you want to replace it? I am asking since I feel I am completely ignorant about this part: I watch it, I don't see anything , I assume it is all OK...like I did with the steering chains, up to the moment i had a problem. how to check it ? verify that there is no corrosion where i can't see?greasing? |

Our coupling has a lot of rust on it and the thrust bearing carrier due to the seawater leaking from the Fischer Panda generator. One of the worm drive clamps on the PSS shaft seal had broken (almost impossible to put a new one on). I have replaced the rubber components of the coupling in early 2024 after they started to fall apart. A engineer friend who had a Hanse 531 suggested to replace the complete coupling and thrust bearing the shaft may need to be cut because it may be impossible to get the taper ring off the shaft end. So I have decided I would replace the shaft, PSS seal and the Cutless bearing (available as a "set" from the Hanse bootshop) and the complete coupling and thrust bearing. The access it terrible put we will need to find a way around this. When I had the rubber components replaced they cut the horizontal mounting bolts off with an angle grinder along with part of the rubber part. They were then able to remove the coupling components (except the taper ring). At that stage we didn't try to remove the taper ring. The Volvo Penta owners instruction manual states you should grease the shaft where it enters the PSS seal. The PSS seal information states the seal should be replaced every 5 years. The PSS seal has never leaked. Our boat is coming up to 12 year old and travelled about 40,000nm. So I guess it is time to replace components on the shaft line. We are in Fiji so I wanted to have all the parts here available in case they were needed. If it seems like too big a job for the yard in Fiji I will wait until we get to Aust in late 2026. But at least I will have all the required parts onboard. I think the 588 coupling is different to the 575 but I guess the service requirements are similar. I think your coupling is a Cardan coupling available from Hanse - Product number: TMP0609. Once we get the job done I will put up some images and comments on the forum.

Thanks for the info Wayne and do keep us posted on your progress. I can say that the 588 in the early years including mine from 2018 has the same Centa unit as yours.

Leon,
That makes it interesting that the Hanse shop not longer supplies our coupling although it is in 2018 boats. They didn't say the Cardan coupling would fit or was a drop-in exchange or offer any input except - here is the Centa email contact. Maybe the replacement will go better than I expect - hope so.

Wayne, I just took a look at the “Cardan” shaft coupling on Boatoon. I can’t tell who the manufacturer is but I’m guessing that they switched vendor on that part sometime after my build. However, it looks like it would be a drop in replacement and would make sense in that it would likely need to fit the existing hull configuration.

Have you tried Centa directly. Maybe they can steer you to a distributor. I believe you have the correct part number. The only options on that part would be for a 45 mm shaft and the TB-3 bearing. +49-2129-912-0
