I sail with folks whose legs are apparantly not long enough to comfortable jump or step off my 350 as I near the dock. I've though about a two or three polyurethane step on the dock or maybe even making a three step platform, but the crew does not feel comfortable with that idea and would like a plastic type step that West Marine sells that attaches to the rail or maybe around the bottom of the shrouds. have any owners had similar complaints from crew, and what have you done? rc

Well, this is a common problem with the recent high hulls. Think about panos with his 630. Have you ever been beside a 630. It is huge. His wife could use a paraglider for landing on the dock. The alternative is flooding your hull before entering the harbour. It will help to lower your position.
But it will be expensive after some time......and i think the bilgepumps from Hanse will not be very helpful getting it all out again......
BTW you could bye this:
i do not know if it fits on your 350.
Also you can bye a stepfender. Some people like it.
The best solution is doing some sport in advance. My wife has loooong legs and is very sportive as she is preparing to run a marathon soon(in total contrast to me ;-). So we do not have any problem with that. Edited by Peter-Blake - 24 November 2008 at 10:26 |

We use a fender step on our 540 and it works well for us. Get a blue (or other dark colour) one so it does not show the dirt

We've been very happy with the fenderstep also (see photo on our 400 here http://www.sailkerkyra.com/index.php?pr=add_ons)
We had tried a couple of kinds of ladders placed on the dock. With the variety of different dock designs and heights it is not a very reliable solution. Sometimes you have a more risky challenge with the ladder than without. Some notes about the fenderstep:

I have one of those fender-steps as well but the ship's dog prefers to do it his way. Even if the boat is covered in snow.

@Johan, Now I understand how U can write all these posts. I would also prefer to post than to remove the snow. Is this November snow, or the pictures are from last January/February? Now I see that this was my 300th post. Edited by panos - 25 November 2008 at 00:31 |

Panos, you will be beating me in no time. I try to find any possible way to keep ahead of you in terms of number of posts but you will soon be overtaking me.
Anyhow, I try to keep my posts as authentic as possible. The pictures are from today. After having embarked the ship Í had a nice cup of something that we refer to as Shore Power Coffee in the cabin. That means that we make exactly the same coffee aboard as we make in the the castle where I happens to be the King. (Me thinks the castle is crap because you can't sail with it) When we go sailing with the ship and we have to rely on battery power we make proper coffee as well, only we don't use 500 Watts of electrical power but use the stove instead to make hot water. What I am saying is that I am enjoying my ship immensely even if the weather is as bad as the photos above describe. I can also stretch as far as saying that I am enjoying being part of the myHanse community just as much, even though Panos will be elected Prime Post Writer before I become First Snowman.
