Hi All,

I'm looking for a bow ladder for my 400. The bow anchor on the port side and back sweeping bow pulpit is a tricky combination. I've heard that Båtsystems ST135 ladder fits Hanse 375, but 400 is just a bit different, or is it? ST135 may not reach...

Does anyone have a solution for 400?

Unfortunately bowsprit is not an option for me.

Does this work for you?
It is simple and quite cheap.

Hi tingeling,

Actually we already have a step-fender, which is OK by me. But our kids and my wife find it unsafe. So that is why I'm looking for a more solid solution.

Hi Ian,

You have a good, light-weight system. I don't have any bow sprit, which could be used as a base for a ladder. Do you find your ladder rigid or will it swing when one enters the boat after having some pints on the club?Smile

Thank you both for your replies. We still have ice at sea in Finland, so I have a month (!) to think about different options before the sailing season starts.

Hello Sailingjack,

No its quite stable as in the photograph.  The step is trapped by the anchor.  There is a little movement when you place your weight on it and obviously one grips the spinnaker halyard for balance.

We only use the step in the Baltic and so we did not want to spend a lot of money on a  bowstep system.  Weight was another issue too.

Regards

Ian

It is a somewhat small market for bow ladder makers, I think ladders aren't widely used outside Scandinavia. So there are only a few models available.

What I'm looking for is a compact, multistep ladder which reaches near to the sea level so that kids can easily climb up from island rocks. It should also fit to the anchor locker already full of fenders and should be cheap ... mission impossible.

If

If you are thinking of having one made I noticed an emergency ladder on a boat in Scotland
I photo'd it as a reminder in case I wanted a ladder some time
It is a tube with bars set through it
The main tube in the picture is hinged but this may not be necessary
You would have to design a hook for the deck but if the cross tubes were made with a pin on one side of the main tube they could be made removable
This means the largest part to store would be the main tube
Before anyone suggests it-- I do not think holes in the spinnaker pole would be a good idea!!!!
One could use a broken dinghy mast or a broken fibreglass sailboard mast & some wooden broom handles to experiment with before ordering the main parts

Samuel,

That's a good one! That design would fit in the anchor box and I could use the ladder as a Xmas tree at home (yes, I am an engineer).

A standard peace of equipment is always desirable, if I break it I can get a new one off the shelf. But if I need to have a tailor made, that type of ladder could be the way to go.
