Hej,

I take this in enlish instead of swedish.
I have a Hanse 400e from 2006 with Sparecraft rig and Harken furler. When I bought it (in 2014) the deflector was missing and ther were only leftovers from the rivets (popnitar). But I did't have any problems with halyard rotating when furling. However, during the first winter I mounted a new Sparecraft deflector (a "ring" on a bracket, probably not what you had since yours fellt of). When hoisting the jib for the first time I was not able to get the tension in the luff since the luff was to long and the shackle stopped at the deflector . I then removed the deflector again. I have not during the 2 seasons had any problems with the halyard rotating around the forestay.

I have now ordered a new jib and had long discussions with the sailmaker if I should use a deflector or not. Their answer was that it't not needed if the distance between halyard exit and swivel is short enought (like 100-150mm). If it's longer I would go for a strop (between sail and swivel) as described in your other post - then you can hoist both sails with "long" and "short" luff.

I would gues that the root caus of your deflector failing might be due to that your distance between swivel and halyard is to short and gives high force on the deflector, I would guess that's my boat had thas issue from the beginning as well.

When my father during the 80s installed a furler on his Comfort 30 the rigger forgot the deflector. During a race whe got the halyard rotating around the forstay - but since we were leading we used the Genua winch to unfurl the sail. What happend? The forestay went off! We were lycky that the rig had 4 lower shrouds and was able to stand up without the forestay!

http://www.facnor.com/uk/technical_support/technical_brochures/headsail_furlers/fichiers/notice_lslx2012_a5.pdf
