Dear Forum,
Hereby I would like to inform you that I sold my Hanse 400 Eva Luna, and bought an old fashioned but perfectly Dutch built Breehorn 37. I had fun on this forum, and with my boat as well, you get a lot of value for money, and I am more then willing to stay here for a while to chat with you all. Good Bye to you all, my boat is a white Breehorn 37 called Dame Blanche. if we meet wave goodbye. Eva Luna

Good luck with your "new" breehorn 37. Before we bought our Hanse we also were dreaming of a breehorn 37. It is a absolut beauty. Today i am happy with my Hanse 370.

My neighbour boat is a Breehorn 37, a lovely boat but I would prefer my 370.

breehorn is a koopmans design witch is a typicall al round boat.
Very good at sea and very comfortable at a long trip
Also very easy on the rudder.
Hanse 400 is much faster much bigger, but not as sooteble for a trip around the world as a breehorn is.

We experienced some , how can I say without insulting anyone, minor construction failures that made me a little nervous about the long term quality of the boat.
Some items just got loose because they were glued, where old fashioned, or shall i say more expensive boats, tighten with bolts and screws. like ceiling plates that fell off, or a bended clamp which happened when we needed a towboat. also the hull-deck connection is only kitted etc. I can understand that for the value of money Hanse chooses this way of constructing a boat, which will pass all tests when the boat is new. I can only say that I hope for you all that the boats remain as good as they are new after 10 years, in both quality and value. Finally the Vinylester hull we had is guaranteed osmosesfree, much lighter, but also less stiff as well. we are saltwater sailers, and when the boat drops off a wave, the boat shakes like an old rocker.. Eva Luna, next time you need towing don't rely on the clamps. They will not stand up for the job. It's not unique for Hanse boats.
Good luck with your next boat - just don't tow in in the clamps

What do you mean by clamps? In the US, I believe we call them cleats? If this is true, then what are you supposed to use when towing the boat, if not clamps or cleats?

Hi,
For sure the cleats are not up to the job! Any boat I know that was towed from the cleats they were ripped off. The best way in keel stepped boats is to use the mast! In deck stepped boats probably the main winches! Even then the tow speed should be as low as possible and never exceeding 1/2 of max motoring speed of the boat. |
