Thank you both for your replies.
I should have been a little more precise.
We lost the pulley of the gennaker halyard. The little wheel is now inside the mast laying at the mast foot while the axle of the pulley is still up in the mast. (hanging loose)

I was wondering if I can take off the mast block from the outside or if its riveted.
If not from the outside I have to take off masttop.
But like Wild says this can be tricky with the frictional rig. Even the gennaker halyard sits above the jib halyard.

Julian,

We have replaced the gennaker sheave and cassette (comes as a complete unit) twice and it is easy. Two rivets hold it in. Just drill these out and remove the cassette. Hopefully the damaged sheave will come out as well. Looks like the sheave has been missing for sometime. The last cassette we changed we had a machinist remove the new sheave and replace it with one he made which has a stainless steel bearing. It seems the standard Selden sheave is not up to the pressures when you are using a large downwind sail for long periods. The replacement of the cassette only took about 2 hours and is much easier than the mast head sheaves.

Hi guys, the mast in the picture looks substantially different from mine (aluminum, furling main). Can you clarify if the "cassette" is specific to one of the selden models of the mast, or it's the same in all the masts? i am looking to some old pictures when i had dismasted the boat and i can't identify what you call the "cassette".

hello Pzucchel and Julian
Selden call this the jib box.
I replaced mine a few years ago.
It is a strait line job, in this case you can use bought, main halyard and top lifting ( security) line to change the box and easily release the gennaker and the Jib halyard.
Ours wasn’t revited like on Wayne’s world but with 2 Torkx bolts 6mm and tread in the mast. When we rigged our boat we taped the holes in the mast by ourselves.
Looking at your picture Julian it looks to me you have a carbon mast instead the original standard aluminum one

Julian,

These are images of the Selden cassette (Spinnaker or Gennaker box) from our mast. It may be different on your 495 and for a carbon mast. A Selden dealer should be able to tell you what part number your box would be if you can quote them the rigging Identification number which should be on the bottom of the mast. The ID number should be something like - K34-C304-12049-354 160

Box on the right just in image with Selden sheave lower and machined sheave upper not fitted to box at the time.

The old box removed from the mast.

Thanks for the replies.
The mast is aluminum its just wrapped with foil. Thanks to previous owner.

As I was also under the impression it is a Selden mast, but my sail dealer told me it might be a Southern Spars mast. Due to the wrap I can not find the serial number.

I assume it doesn't make a difference which brand of jib box / cassette to install as long as dims are similar and I don't have to enlarge the hole.

Now I just have to get a rivet and climb up the mast.
