I disagree and firmly believe a foldable propeller results in 0,5 upto 1 knot speed difference!

So I went and bought a Kiwiprop. Last summer I had a fixed, two blade Volvo propeller; 17 x 14. With that the boat steamed 6.7 to 7 knots with 2400 revs. The new prop is a 3-blade 17 x 22 deg. I'll let you know more as soon as I manage to test it (next month?).

Have anyone of you experienced more vibration with 2 blade flex-o-fold than fixed 2 blade?

That's an interesting Bulletin, but it is now over 6 years old. Has it been updated?

Then I have replaced the 2.blade fixed 17 x 14 with 2-blade Flexofold 17 x 14
There is less vibration and the speed has encreased. I have the same speed with 200 - 300 less rpm.

we have replaced with a maxprop feathering one. In my opinion speed difference is between0.5 and 1 knot. I know some test reports specify litle difference, but to our experience the difference is really inetresting. With the feathering prop i got an impressive backwards power, better than with the fixed prop.

Yanmar says that you should keep the transmission in neutral when sailing. But since it was noisy listening to the prop spin, I always put it into reverse to stop the prop from spinning. Yanmar says that putting the shift in reverse could cause excessive wear of the cone clutch. I didn't want to spend the money for a new prop, but wearing out a clutch or two over the life of the boat was less appealing.
After a lot of research, I went with the Flexofold 17-13-3L 3 bladed prop recommended by the factory. After three months of use, I am very happy with the decision. The boat has the 40 hp Yanmar with the SD50 saildrive. Full throttle is 3000 RPM's with a speed of 9 knots and about 7.5 knots at 2400 RPM. The boat also has a lot more thrust when it is first put in gear, forward or reverse. It is hard to gauge any improvement under sail but it can't hurt especially at higher speeds since drag increases by velocity squared. And it is quiet under sail with no clutch wear. Ed

Even though it's an old post it's still very hot so I'll add my experience:
I have a Variprofile 3 blade, and it performs really well, even though it's hard to make comparison as every single boat is different... Anyhow I've tried it in rough seas and winds and I was never disappointed! I'm a bit curious anyhow on top motor-performance of your 400's... At cruising range (2200-2300 rpm) with the volvo engine I'm doing some 6.3 knots.... I've heard here 7.9 knots at 2600?!?!?!?!?!?!? What a dream!!!!

First season with my new Kiwiprop. It feels great, stops and manoeuvres the boat much better than the original 2-blade fixed prop. Also gained 0.2 knots steaming speed. Maybe sailing speed as well... My log exaggerated 0.7 knots (10%)! I needed to calibrate it with GPS, so this may be a reason for varying speed measures on this forum.
We now get 6.9 knots SOG @ 2400 rpm.
