Check out this website:
http://www.psychosnail.com/BoatSpeedCalculator.aspx The 400 has a static waterline length of 35.4 feet which will yield a displacement hull speed of 8 knots. But is the waterline length increasing as the boat is under way? It sure looks like it when you look at the stern. This website also has a correction for displacement/length ratio. I believe the DL ratio for the 400 is about 220 which yields a hull speed of over 9 knots. If you believe these formulas, why are we going so slow?

On the subject of Propellers. I have a 3 blade Kiwi prop on a Hanse 400 and my best motoring ahead speed in flat water is 6.5 kn this seems slow according to recent reports from members. Astern or sailing its great. There has been wear seen where the blades hit the boss and its suggested I replace the blades. I am in a quandary about doing the work (as its only been installed 3 years) or going for a more durable Flexofold 3 blade prop. Any members have a view or should I just get the blades replaced this season. What pitch have other 400e owners had the Kiwi set to?

Three year ago, I changed on my H370e my factory standard three blades flex-o-fold folding propeller with a three blades kiwi prop. (Yanmar 40HP engine, on SD50) I could’nt verify the engine speed ahead comparised to that with the previous prop, but my feeling is that the new propeller give the best performance on reverse. If somebody wants to change his fixed blades propeller with my flex-o-fold, I can sell it. Diego (diegoro@tiscali.it) |

I just wonder why you felt you wanted to change from the flexofold to the kiwi prop. I have decided to keep the kiwi at least for another year. I will let you know how I get on as it is having new blades fired.
Thank. Alan |

Hi, I have a 2007 400e with a 40 hp yanmar and a standard 2 blade folding prop. I can get 6 knts @ 2000 rpm and 8knts @ 3000 rpm. Is there someone in the forum with a similar boat with a three blade Gori prop as the local dealer is adamant that is the way to go. Your thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

I think you will need a 18 x 13 inch propellor (two blade folding), I have it as well on my 370 with 39 HP Yanmar and it runns about 8,2 knots at 3000 rpm = max power greetings Marcel

Because of other boat expenses (I changed my whole old battery package at the end of 2012 year) I decided to sell my H370 factory standard three blades flex-o-fold folding propeller, four seasons used, in excellent conditions, with a new anode. My request is EUR 800 (USD 1080 about), delivery costs included. Send a message to diegoro@tiscali.it

Hi, I have a 2 blade folding and when we feather it it makes a huge difference to the drag on the boat.
