Has anyone had a sail of the new 445 yet? I'm interested to hear how it stacks up against other models. The added volume on this boat inevitably will slow it down, but it looks like a very nice cruiser.

I would also be curious to hear comments on how the 445 is to sail. I have inspite all ods chosen to buy a 445 without a prior test sailing because of the wonderful design and a very well-planned interior. The boat is now delivered to my yard and I'm waiting for summer

That makes two of us, I went to the Hamburg show to spend some time on the boat and made a side trip to Griefswald to see the boat being built - all of which impressed. Mine will arrive in Canada when we thaw out in the spring.

Hi Folks,
I would expect you to read my impression with a pinch of salt but I may have been lucky enough to sail it more than most. I have been out on roughly 10 test sails with prospective clients, so approximately 20 hours altogether and in winds between 6 and 33 knots.
The sail area is less than the 430 but still scoots along very happily in next to no wind, so there is no shortage of power.
She is quite happy with full sail in 20 knots and remains light on the helm both to windward and off the wind.
I had 2 reefs and half the jib when it was gusting 33 knots and again quite happy. The helm loaded up a little when off the wind but not significantly and she cruised along at 10 knots quite happily.
Quite how they have managed to make a voluminous boat sail so sweetly is very impressive, inparticular hard on the wind. I spoke to one of the designers at Judel Vrolijk and he told me that the waterline when heeled at a certain angle is designed to be a sweet spot, which is enhanced by the long waterline and significantly kicked up stern quarters.
All in all everyone I have taken out has not just been impressed but blown away by the way it sails, so I think you will be very happy.
The layout of the deckgear is also spot on for shorthanded and the sparcraft rig and sailcars makes the sail hoist and drop very easy.
Hope that helps - Phil

I could sail the 445 recently in Turkey in quit rough conditions -- the 445 is handy, fast and delightful. I could not resist to order one..:-) |

Nice I suspect that boat will do quite well for Hanse. How long until you get it?

It will be delivered by end of April in Istambul. I will then spend some time there to check everything and then sail trough the Aegean Sea towards the south coast of turkey – which is a beautiful area – good wind, lots of anchoring bays, nice nature. Let me know in case you are in the area and would like to get a ride on it. |

Sounds like a great place to keep the boat. Our Hull numbers will probably be quite close, mine is going to arrive in Toronto in April.

Super -- let's going on informing about our experiences
with the 445!
I orderd it fully equipped including the stronger engine, 2 electrical winches, generator and AC -- a watermaker is now in discussion, but Hanse's offer at 16'000 Euros is expensive compared to market prices. |
