Stampede got very slim in the new suit. Maybe good for the aero dynamics while racing

I recently removed my "horror videos" from YouTube. The picture shows how great the bath platform is. It was one of the main reasons for buying a 342. You get very close to the water, as you can see, and it is great for swimming, for entering the dinghy etc. It's just a shame that Hanse could never build it properly. Not all the platforms are bad. The one on my Dec 2006 342 seems to have survived two seasons OK. Mind you I have avoided dancing, trampolining and having wild parties on it!
Johan, How is your new platform with the additional cockpit drains and the reinforcements now that you have had it a few months? I do like the idea of the cockpit drains in it.

To tell you the truth - I never dared to dive directly from any of the platforms I tried, let alone tap dancing or throwing a good party. I have only used them to step carefully on and I had two that cracked. The other ones where twisted so they wouldn't close properly.
The second platform that cracked was delivered in April 2007 and it cracked after four days. I was told that Hanse changed their production after that so a further reinforced platform was introduced in May 2007. The one that I have now (number six) is the least twisted of the lot but it is still twisted. This problem was fixed by building a higher support on the starboard side. It was easier to modify the boat than the bath platform! The current platform works fine and I am happy with it although you don't want to look to close on how well it fits. The two holes will not drain the cockpit until you get substantial water in it. They are located a few centimetres above the sole and when the boat is heeled they will be even further from the water. Having said that, I think they are great if you are sailing in rough weather and get hit by a wave that fills the cockpit. Johan |

I don't know whether to be proud over the achievement to discourage buyers from going for the bath platform option.
I wonder what Hanse think? Will I get a Christmas card from them? Johan |
