The Hanse 315 is on my shortlist for solo sailing and two-person coastal cruising. I would appreciate any advice about the 315’s sailing performance, build quality, or cockpit and cabin ergonomics. Cheers!

There are 2 vintages of 315.  One around 2007 and the other the current one.  You need to say in which you are interested.

Dunno yet, taking delivery of a 315 the week after next (excited!).  Sailed one last year out of Rye, NY and she did well in light air, the typical summer conditions of Long Island Sound, my home waters.  My use case will be similar to yours: single handing, a friend or two for a few days’ cruising.  They don’t have a lot of storage space and the holding tank is only about 10 gallons, but for my purposes I think it’ll be fine.  Not planning on doing anything super ambitious with her — no ocean crossings.  Short hops in locations where there are plenty of resources ashore is what I have in mind.

I got a new 315 in April 2023. I wanted a boat that I could sail single handed or with 2 other friends at a time. I couldn't be more pleased with the design:
1) Hanse have built in a huge amount of space into the boat. The transverse stern acbin and big bed are excellent
2) The boat is fast and incredibly responsive
3) I love the self tacking jib
I got the grey hull and synthetic teak decks which look great. I got an Elvstrom Furlstrom (roller furling) code zero and love it - whilst I don't think the self tacking jib compromised performance when close hauled, it is less good on a reach and the code zero makes up for this.
I crossed the English Channel in her this season and we reached the whole way with the code zero up and doing about 7 knots average.
The finish quality is very good and the boat feels solid.
The inernals look very good. My only criticism is that the storage cupboards are spartan to put it mildly. As I have got to know the boat, I have built shelves and other stroage solutions that suit how I live on board (shelves, crockery holders, glasses storage etc)
With these in place, I do not find storage an issue - the stern locker on deck is huge (able to take all the normal stuff plus 4 person liefraft plus 7 big fenders and lines), the saloon under-seat locker takes the code zero, tools and boots, the wall units take spares and food, and the sink unit cupboard takes all the crockery and odds and ends. There are spacious cupboards in stern and forward cabins.
The toilet space is large and, once I had put 5 or 6 hooks in them, large enough to use with 3 sets of waterproofs drying in there.
Hope this is helpful...

Brian

Hi Brian. We are relatively new owners of a 2020 315. I have made some adaptations to our cockpit locker so that I can easily hang lines in there. However I’m about to tackle galley and cabin stowage. I’d be most interested to see what you’ve done there if you have any images. Many thanks. John

Hi John

I'll post some images - its all drawer dividers and simple stuff (eg double decker cutlery divider), but I would say it has doubled what we can store and get to easily.

Thanks Brian images will be great. Don’t worry, I like simple and straightforward but nothing beats learning from those who’ve gone before you.
I made this rope hanger for the cockpit locker by making up two little tabs attached to the projecting ends of the bolts which attach the cockpit locker hinges. A couple of nuts to secure the tabs and I could hang a timber rod to hang ropes where I can easily reach them.
